Message from the President
Welcome to fall, my favorite time of the year! Pumpkins, fall leaves and, of course, Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks! Everyone is getting into the holiday mode with decorating, hosting parties and shopping. We are fortunate to have many new businesses in Whittier to assist us with all of these. Our Chamber has added 17 new members in August & September and we are so excited to have them taking advantage of all of the benefits we offer.
I am very excited to announce that the Chamber has recently rolled out a new Chamber Member “benefit without involvement!” Chamber Strategies will be providing LIVE webinars and workshops for business owners of all sizes. I encourage you to visit the Chamber’s website at www.whittierchamber.com and look at our new “Webinars & Workshops” section. This month’s webinars include topics on “Admin, Finance, Legal, etc.,” Management & Leadership,” “Entrepreneurship,” and “Sales & Marketing.” There are also numerous “On Demand” webinars to check out. Information gained through these workshops can really help your bottom line when it comes to training your staff and/or the mandatory training to keep up with compliance. Other topics offered include: “Executing a LinkedIn Business Development,” “Essential Elements of Every Small Business Website,” “The Best Way to Hire Sales People,” and “Your Customers Still Want to Talk to a Human Being.”
This month is full of exciting events starting with our Women In Business Luncheon on October 11, 2017 from 11:30 am – 2 pm. We are hosting this event along with the Santa Fe Springs Chamber at the Clarke Estate. If you would like to attend, please call Courtney or go online for tickets. The guest speaker is Endyia Kinney-Sterns who is an accomplished television and network executive with over 20 years of entertainment television experience. In the spring of 2018, she will add published author to her list of accomplishments with the release of her highly anticipated book, “Why Me?” Please join us for this exclusive event and enjoy special networking with other female business professionals.
One of the benefits of becoming a Whittier Chamber member is a ribbon cutting. Ribbon cuttings allow the opportunity for you to showcase your business to other business owners while everyone gets the benefit of networking. This month we have several ribbon cuttings that you can attend. On October 19th we will be celebrating new business, Dr. Lili Mirtorabi & Associates, at 4:00 pm and then realtors Angel & Patty will cut the ribbon on their new building on First Avenue on October 26th at 4:00 pm. Please come out and support these great businesses and watch for updates on more scheduled ribbon cuttings.
Our Student Chamber Leaders will be kicking off their new school year on October 10th and I personally want to thank Lori Eshilian for her involvement with our amazing students. I have heard that this year we have more students involved than ever with this program. I had the opportunity to hear last year’s Student Chamber President Beto Luna speak so eloquently on how being part of this group has made a difference on how he interacts with business owners and how it will guide him as he attends college and his career after college. We are excited to meet all of the new Student Chamber Leaders at our next Wake Up Whittier. These juniors and seniors are eager to learn from all of us so please share your business knowledge with them.
Speaking of Wake Up Whittier, this month we will be at Family Church on Greenleaf Ave. on October 18. It will be a time of great networking with fellow business owners and they have the best breakfast spread around so this event definitely needs to go on your “To Do” list! I look forward to seeing all of you there.
